Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Fans can expect learning which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
